Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate relationships among burden, social support, and quality of life for the family caregiver of hemodialysis patients. Method: Participants were one hundred family caregivers whose patients received hemodialysis for more than one month at three branch hospitals in C University. Data were collected from March to April 2003 through three questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, ANOVA, and regression analysis. Results: 1. There was a significantly positive correlation between social support the family caregiver received and quality of life the family caregiver perceived. Also, there was a significantly negative correlation between a sense of burden and quality of life. 2. Regarding predicting factors, the family caregivers¢¥ quality of life was significantly and positively affected by the level of education and social support (p<0.05) and then negatively affected by the level of burden (p<0.05).. Conclusion: There are close relations among burden, social support, and quality of life for the family caregiver of hemodialysis patients. Thus, the establishment of nursing interventional program is needed to promote quality of life of the family of hemodialysis patients.
